My favorite looks!!! post#10

VIDEO: Carey Mulligan for VOGUE MAY 2013

For this post I wanted to share with you my favorite looks of the week. To start, this month I am so in love with the photo shoot of Carey Mulligan for the May issue of VOGUE, A TOUCH OF ART DECO AND OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR! The English actress looks stunning in her 1920’s themed look. She will star as Daisy Buchanan in the remake of the movie "The Great Gatsby", directed by Baz Luhrmann... and she certainly portraits her character in this ‘Great Gatsby’ themed cover shoot...
These beautiful pictures really make me think that I was born in the wrong generation haha ... please take me back to 1920!!

FASHION AND TECHNOLOGY post#9

Attention Fashion Industry... technology and style have come together!.... BURBERRY AND TOPSHOP definitely know how to do it!

Is incredible how technology has taken control of our lives. We have became so dependent of it that one single day without out iPhones, tablets, laptops, or any other tech device can literally drive us crazy. Before we were buying designer clothes and handbags, today tech-accesories have become very popular and are a must! From high end brand like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, to Marc Jacobs and Kate Spade you can find a wide variety of tech-accesories. This shows how fashion brands are realizing the importance of technology in our lives.

BURBERRY AND TECHNOLOGY:

Burberry's Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey promised back in September that Burberry would be stepping up its digital innovation lead even more. Believe me!... he wasn't kidding.
London Fashion Week kicked off with Burberry's autumn/winter 2013 women's RTW full of glossy trench coats, animal prints, polished metals and hearts. It also took a shine to the latest in digital personalization, giving consumers the option to order what they saw on the runway straight from their mobile devices with the ability to customize their purchases using Burberry's high-end technology.
This shows us how the British fashion house is all on tech, including its Art of the Trench and Burberry World digital platforms, pushing photos to Instagram, making contact with consumers across the social and mobile web.

WHAT IS A LOOKBOOK? POST#8

What is a Lookbook?

The answer is very simple, lookbooks are just that, a book to show off the look of a brand. They are usually used by fashion labels to visually show the "look" or idea of their latest collection. Today, they are mostly used by independent brands and fashion bloggers as a way of publicity and promotion.
A lookbook consists of styled images, with models wearing the clothes, and looks just as good as anything you would normally see in a fashion magazine.
Lookbooks are often confused with catalogues but the main difference is that a catalogue has direct product shots, product information, and prices so that people can place direct orders from them.
A lookbook is all about showing a "look". The aim is to create aspirational lifestyle images that customers can relate with.

Trunk Shows post#7

What is TRUNK SHOW?

Trunk shows are named so because dresses used to be transported to these event in trunks.  A typical trunk show is when a fashion designer or vendor shows his collection to buyers and exlucsive customers. This is the perfect place for buyers to see more in detail the upcoming merchandise and trends for the upcoming season. This is the perfect time for buyers to place orders and select the merchandise they want to carry in their stores.

Sometimes the actual designers are present in these events giving the opportunities to buyers to ask question and talk to them about the merchandise. Trunk shows also sell remnant and leftover items from runways and samples if available.

Fashion Videos Post#6

HELLO SUMMER 2013!

April has just begun and summer is around the corner. It is finally the time of the year time to refresh your wardrobe. Say good bye to your heavy winter coats and fur vests and say hello to the light weight clothes and the beautiful summer color palettes.

ITALY ALL THE WAY!!...My two very favorite runway shows for the Spring/Summer 2013 RTW collections were presented by the Italian fashion houses Dolce & Gabbana and Prada.

“Saluti da Taormina! Mare. Sole. Amore."  (Greetings from Taormina! Sea. Sun. Love.).... a Sicilian wave inspired the SS 2013 RTW collection designed by Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce. Folkloric prints, pencil-skirted sundresses in satin organza and silk, brightly printed  headscarves, bold and big accessories, and wide-cut tunic tops with puff-ball beach rompers were seen in the runway. Definitely a 50's Italian vibe!

Safari Alert!!! COLOR TREND: SPRING 2014 post#5

SAFARI EXPEDITION

Africa takes control of SPRING 2014! a Safari expedition takes a refined approach to African reference. Natural and sun-baked things find their place in jungles greens and clay red hues for next year's garments. Earth colors and radiant green leaves were predominant in the runway fashion shows, from New York to Milan, Safari inspired collections were all over the place. So, whether you are going to Africa or not, twill utility jackets, exotic animal prints, and lots of leather in neutral colors are the must haves for next year!

PANTONE COLORS: Color forecast
Here we can appreciate more in detail the color forecast for spring 2014 by the authority on color and the provider of the color systems PANTONE. Neutrals, greens, yellows, reds, and the classic black are the main color hues for next year.

In the RUNWAY

Krizia, Max Mara, and Salvatore Ferragamo presented exotic utility looks in the runway. Cargo pockets, suede, and epaulettes were incorporated in the trims and designs of the garments. PLUS! how can we talk about an African safari without mentioning ANIMAL PRINTS! of course they were brought into the mix, snake skin and the classic leopard print are coming big for Spring 2014.

Two Rebels, One on Pause. Post #4

Section from the blog entry by Cathy Horyn:

" Rei Kawakubo wanted guests for Comme des Garçons to see the clothes in detail, so before her show on Saturday afternoon she moved the front rows closer, narrowing the long runway in a metal-craft warehouse. You could have touched the clothes. That might have been the idea, but it was not necessary. Ms. Kawakubo’s extreme tailoring was easy to parse.
Rosettes, tubes and lumps of classic menswear fabric were embedded in outfits of the same material, creating weird volumes and textures but also feminine decoration. Checked outfits were papered with overlapping squares of checks. There were also a few lumpy looks in rose velvet or lace, but the most extreme outfits were in a deeply saturated, multihued print. We’ve seen this kind of technical virtuosity from Ms. Kawakubo before, but it was interesting to see how feminine symbols, like rosettes, were absorbed into masculine tailoring — and how the masculine forms exploded into decoration.
By contrast, the tailoring at Jean Paul Gaultier looked stodgy as the designer reprised some of his standard silhouettes and hour-glass leather jackets, now with fluid, ankle-grazing skirts. He flitted between long and short silhouettes, with unappealing skirts in fur patchwork, but he had trouble establishing a relevant look. Some of the deeply vented coats looked fine, but all in all, the show was heavy going. Missing from the collection was the Gaultier wit and, more, the polish."

NYC Fashion Week/Spring 2013 Street Style post #3

As any fashion lover February and September are my favorite months of the year, and the reason why is very simple, two words: FASHION WEEK! .... Every single time Fashion Week offers something completely different and the excitement of not knowing what to expect is just amazing. During this past NYFW 2013 designers presented their Prêt-à-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fall 2013 collections. From Marc Jacobs to Diane Von Furstenberg,  from Victoria Beckham to Ralph Lauren, every designer presented something unique and different in the runway. Black and white was definitely the trend that that ruled the runway as well as unique patterns and but cut-outs.
This year's Mercedes-Benz's Fashion Week was a little chaotic because of the snowstorm that hit the city but luckily the blizzard did not stop editors, fashionistas, celebrities, and bloggers of attending the shows. MBFW organizers and designers pulled through and offered a great Fashion Week. Marc Jacobs's Monday show was postponed to Thursday because of delayed shipments, but thank God for that because his show was my favorite one!!! Glittering mesh dresses, embellishment on retro-inspired swing coats, retro collar blouses, high-waist shorts, pajama-inspired looks, every single look was so polished and beautiful that I wanted to get them all!

Not only designers shows us the up coming trends in their fashion shows, today I believe that true fashion creativity comes from the streets. In my opinion the Street Style looks are always the best ones!!! So of course this year I was more than ready to get to the streets and start taking pictures. Here are some of my favorite ones! DOTS DOTS DOTS! post#2

Large or small, sexy or sweet, polka dots are BACK! Polka Dots become a main stay and get even bigger this spring 2013 season. No matter the color make sure to add some dots to your closet! I am actually very happy that dots are back because I consider myself a big fan of polka dots! because they can always give a fun touch to your outfit. They can transform a dull outfit to a chic and fun look!

Whenever i hear the word polka dots the first thing that comes to my mind is the Japanese minimalist and pop art artist Yayoi Kusama. When I just got to New York last August I remember that the first thing I wanted to do was to go to 5th avenue, visit all my favorite stores and of course do some shopping!! As I was walking by the Louis Vuitton store I remember seeing this cool and crazy window displays and I told to myself what the heck is going on? Marc Jacobs is really bringing polka dots back! hahaha and I may not remember the exact merchandise that was displayed but I do remember the wax figure of Yayoi Kusama along with the white background with red polka dots.

IN THE RUNWAY
Polka dots made a strong come back in the runway fashion shows for spring 2013. Definitely one of the most eye-catching and chic prints.
